Department of Computer Science
Mr. Augustine Ndudi Egere
Department of Computer Science
The Polytechnic Computer Science department focuses on theoretical computation, software development, and hardware maintenance. The curriculum is practically driven to equip students for careers in software engineering, database management, and networking.
History
The Department of Computer Science is one of the pioneer departments in the Federal Polytechnic Bali. It was among the first set of departments to be accredited in the Polytechnic. Mal. Abdulrahman Saidu served as the Pioneer Head of Department from 2010 to 2020. He handed over to Mr. Odesanya A. Dele, who served in Acting capacity from 2020 to 2022.
Thereafter, Mr. Augustine Ndudi Egere assumed leadership first as Acting Head of Department from 2022 to 2023 and was subsequently elected as the substantive Head of Department in January 2024 till date.
Accreditation
The Department received its letter granting it interim accreditation on 1st December 2012 to run a two-year National Diploma (ND) programme in Computer Science.
The Department was fully accredited in 2018. Furthermore, in 2020, the Department received a letter granting it interim accreditation to run a two-year Higher National Diploma (HND) programme in Computer Science, and it was granted full accreditation in 2023.
Unbundling of HND Computer Science
In 2024, following the unbundling of HND Computer Science into four specialized programmes — Networking and Cloud Computing (NCC), Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, and Software Technology & Web Development — and the waiver granted to commence NCC and Software Technology, the Department keyed into the new structure and successfully mounted the two approved programmes.
